In Thorfinn’s childhood, sailors from many lands told stories of reaching Vinland and exploring the legends that surrounded it. English and Danish soldiers are fighting each other more and more each year. In the Viking mercenary culture, death has become routine, and the warriors love every bit as much as death itself. A massive swing in power would result from siding with either camp, and the Vikings are happy to make names for themselves and profit from the spoils they earn from them. The chaos among the people compels Thorfinn to seek revenge against Askeladd, the man who murdered his father. Unless the Vikings have discovered a paradise, it seems they will continue to live in an age of war and death.
