Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai (often shortened to Chuunibyou) is a Japanese light novel series written by Torako and illustrated by Yui Horie. The series follows the protagonist Rikka Takanashi as she deals with the heartbreak of her first love, and her best friend Yuuta Togashi as he deals with the aftereffects of his first girlfriend. In a series of short episodes, Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai follows the life of Rikka Takanashi and her struggles with her adolescent delusions. She begins to question her love for Yuuta Togashi, who is struggling with his own feelings for her.

Everyone in their lives experienced this time where they felt they were exceptional, distinct from regular people. They may go as far as to perceive themselves able to exert magical abilities, or perhaps think themselves to have come down from a realm of imagination.

This “sickness,” called “chuunibyou,” is typically the root of some of a person’s most humiliating situations. For Yuuta Togashi, the scars left behind by his chuunibyou are still raw. After having posed as “Dark Flame Master,” he looked back with tremendous humiliation in those days throughout his high school years and decided to go to a high school far away from where none of them recognized him. He longs to live a regular high school life, putting his tragic background behind him. Sadly, he has not yet fled his past: go into Rikka Takanashi, the new classmate of Yuuta and self-reported “Wicked Eye” vessel. As this eccentric young lady smashes into the life of Yuuta, his fantasy of an average free existence soon collapses. The illusions of the aged are far from previous stories in this humorous and touching narrative of a child who only wants to leave behind his humiliating recollections.
