Hajime no Ippo (Fighting Spirit)
Makunouchi Ippo has always been bullied. Ippo, who is always running errands and being beaten by his classmates, has always dreamed of changing himself but has never had the passion to do so. When Ippo finds himself facing yet another bullying incident, the boxer Takamura Mamoru decides to save him. As a result of his injuries, Ippo faints and is taken to the Kamogawa boxing gym for recovery. He experiences awe and amazement at his new surroundings in the gym when he is able to regain consciousness, yet lacks the confidence to attempt anything.
Takamura forces Ippo to punch a punching bag that contains a picture of Ippo’s classmate. Takamura finally asks Ippo to train in boxing once he feels something stirring deep inside of him. Takamura gives Ippo an impossible task within a one-week time limit, thinking that he will not be able to complete it. In order to accomplish the task within the time limit, Ippo trains relentlessly with a sudden desire to grow stronger for himself and his hardworking mother. This is the beginning of Ippo’s journey to becoming the king of boxing.
