Mike Kuriyama possesses the power to use his blood as a weapon, creating her own clan of warriors from the Spirit World. Accordingly, Mirai is assigned the task of hunting down and killing “youmu,” creatures believed to be the manifestations of negative human emotions. When Mirai is deep in thought on the roof of the school, he comes across Akihito Kanbara, a rare human half-breed of the youmu. Her blood saber causes her to panic and plunges it into him, only to be shocked at the realization that he is immortal.

Mirai then begins to torture Akihito in an effort to boost her confidence as a Spirit World warrior. It is from then on that they form an impromptu friendship that revolves around Mirai constantly trying to kill Akihito. Regardless, Akihito comes up with more convincing arguments so that she may also join what is known as the Literary Club.
